Rail vehicles exhibit distinct differences in their bogie design compared to road vehicles. In the early stages, railway vehicles relied on two or three fixed axles for operation. However, the concept of the bogie, initially referred to as the "swivelling bolster," quickly gained widespread acceptance. A bogie is a compact unit comprising two or three axles, designed to be mounted beneath the vehicle frame while retaining a certain degree of freedom of movement.

This particular bogie variant is designed for railway gauges of 1000mm and is suitable for both new wagons and maintenance purposes. It has a maximum axle load capacity of 16t and can operate at a maximum speed of 80km/h. The bogie incorporates a basic brake system with a braking leverage ratio of 5. The brake rigging features forged brake beams and composition brake shoes for optimal performance.

The axle specifications comply with AAR M-101 standards, with a journal size of 5ʺ×9ʺ. The wheels conform to AAR M-107/M-208 standards, with a diameter of 800mm. The press-fit assembly of the wheels and axles adheres to the AAR standard. Class C 5ʺ×9ʺ tapered roller bearings, manufactured by Timken, SKF, or FAG, are utilized as per AAR M-934 guidelines.

The bogie design emphasizes ease of maintenance, ensuring convenient accessibility. It falls under the category of a cast steel three-piece bogie, consisting of a wheelset, side frame, bolster, brake rigging, center spring suspension system, variational friction type snubbing device, roller bearings, and side bearings.

The  bogie is a welded three-piece truck bogie. Its components include a wheelset, rolling bearing device, side frame, bolster, bearing spring and elasticity, side bearings, bearing saddles, and spring supporting plates. Additional features such as rigid spring supporting plates and rubber pads on the axle boxes are incorporated to reduce wheel wear and enhance vehicle stability.

This bogie design offers a simple structure, robust strength, and easy operation and maintenance, ensuring reliable performance in railway applications.
